Tools · zxch.dev

Small tools,kept local.

Free utilities built for problems Zach actually has. Each one runs in your browser, keeps its data on your device, and sends nothing anywhere.

The rule

Your data stays with you.

Every tool on this page follows the same rule. It loads once, then runs entirely in your browser. What you put into it is stored on your own device, in the browser’s own database, and is never sent to a server. There is nothing to sign up for, nothing to pay for, and nothing watching.

Each tool can export everything it holds as a plain JSON file, import that file back, and delete every trace of itself on request. The hosted copy here is a convenience, not a dependency: the files can be copied to any web server, or to a folder on your own computer, and they keep working.

The tools

One so far. Others will follow when there is a problem worth one.

  1. Bookie

For people who own too many books and are not reading them.

A private reading planner. Keep the shelf in one place, decide what to read next, set a target for today, and record where you got to. It turns a backlog into a plan, and shows whether the plan is happening.

Your data

What leaves your device: nothing you typed.

Where each kind of information goes, for every tool on this page.

Your library, progress, notes and goals
Stored in your browser’s database (IndexedDB) on this device. Removed when you choose Delete all data inside the tool, or when you clear this site’s data in your browser.
Small preferences
Stored in the browser’s local storage on this device, for things like a remembered sort order.
Exports
Written to a file you choose. They go wherever you put them.
Typefaces
This index page loads two fonts from Google Fonts, which sees that request like any other web page would. The tools themselves bundle their own typefaces and load nothing external at all.
Analytics, cookies, trackers
None. Not on this page, not in the tools.
Hosting
The files are served by a static web host, which, like any host, keeps ordinary server logs of which files were requested. None of what you enter into a tool is in those requests.

Because the data lives in one browser on one device, it does not follow you between devices or browsers. Export a backup to move it, and export one occasionally anyway.

Self-hosting

Take it with you.

Each tool is a folder of static files. Save the folder, put it on any web server or open it from your own computer, and it runs. Every tool ships with a README that explains what it stores, how to export and delete that data, and how to build it from source.

The code was written with AI assistance and reviewed by Zach. It is released under the MIT licence, so you may copy it, change it, and pass it on. Each tool’s source is downloadable from inside the tool, next to the explanation of what it stores.
